I too worry about a drop in price of ectos. And even if the price is artificially inflated by a false belief in the rarity ectos, it is that belief that keeps the FoW armor in high prestige. The entire idea of the armor is kept up by that belief. In all seriousness, there is nothing to it besides looks and price, its stats are no different than basic Drok's 5k armor. It would be a blow to the game and players everywhere who own the armor if it suddenly became just like any armor out there.

And has anyone else thought about the flavor of the game? Guild Wars is an mmorpg, emphasis on rpg. The fantasy storyline that we role play through is a huge reason as to why the favor of the gods weighs in on access to the UW and FoW. These are special hellish areas under the guard of the gods, and they will only grant access to the people who have shown themselves to be the strongest, or to have appeased them the most in combat.

guy's look at the lore,
"The Hall of Heroes is believed to be located deep within the Mists and to be the place where the universe of Guild Wars was first created. As Turai Ossa describes it: It is the center of all things. The Gods of Tyria themselves observe the duels that take place there and grant their favor to the territory whose champions impress them the most. There are only three known portals to the Hall Of Heroes, two of which are currently inaccessible.

Heroes' Ascent - currently the only accessible portal. The Zaishen have suggested that they know the location of another entrance, but they have not revealed this location outside the Order.
Tomb of the Primeval Kings - corrupted by the Darkness.
Tombs of Drascir - deep inside Charr territory. "

http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Hoh

what ur asking for the dev's is to change the whole lore of the game.

/notsigned. not going to happen

What would be better is the exact opposite of what the OP suggests - keep the 'favour of the gods' concept but allow players free entry. That way FoW and UW would become a high-end PvE area rather than reserved for the ecto-farmers testing their latest exploit build.

Maybe a new, free entry point to the Realms in the deep caves of GW:EN perhaps?

If the economy "crashes" then it is because it was artificially inflated to begin with, people BELIEVE that ectos are incredibly rare.
Bullocks.... The more people farming UW and FOW the more the ecto/shard will drop in total (for example 1500 people playing UW , 15.000 people playing uw makes a huge difference in total amount of drops) This lead to an economic effect which is: The more of product X is on the market the fewer it will be worth. In short the amount of ecto's overlaps the demand for ecto's.
And yes incredibly rare is a big worth but hey they are still rare. And since allmost every player is dying to get him or herself a fow armor they are actually worth something.

And they'll probably STAY low, after that, similar to what happened with amber/jade, similar to what's already happening with rubies/sapphires: the demand is steadily decreasing even as farming continues unabated.
Yes true this will effect the prices of ecto's and shards and if they keep it open for everyone ecto's will drop down to +-5k. Now how cool is that to see everyone in the same armor...... FoW armor supposed to be rare and only for those who farmed for it (or ebayed it) or are extremely lucky (drop). Why do you think people farm UW and FoW anyway? For the chest drops....? nah dont think so. The only reason to go in there is to score yourself some ecto and shards, and yes the first 10 times its funny to go in with mates but hey you cant tell me that after 25 times you're still doing it only for the quests. If they keep it open there is no use to go in there cause by that time the ecto and shards are priceless. And to get yourself some FoW armor which already worn by everyone isnt even fun either.

Amber/Jade are extremely easy to get, just play some AB and you got yourself enough amber/jade for your armor in no time. The reason it was high in the beginning was that kurzick and luxon armor were new to the community, everybody wanted one--> demand for it was high--> prices go up. Same happened with sapphires and ruby's, they were 2k before nightfall (no use for them at that time). But when people realised they needed it for one of the (i think) nicest looking armors in Nightfall the prices went skyhigh. And stil its not easy to get ruby/sapphire drops + the demand for Vabian armor is maintaining a certain level so the prices of ruby's and sapphires are maintaining the same level atm.

And I know I'm not the only one who has done this.
ANet should just open UW/FoW to all parts of the world. Completely get rid of the bad decision to link PvE and PvP in any way. If PvP characters had to actually play PvE to unlock skills, get weapons and armor, and reach the arenas, then it would make sense for Pvp players to affect the PvE world. This was the original design, and it was scrapped in favor of PvP only characters and Balthazar faction. only favor remains, a remnant of those times that really adds no "fun" to the game, only adds aggravation and fuels the ongoing animosity between PvE and PvP.
Farming UW and FoW goes on every day yes. But 80% of the time its the europeans who are farming it. But it makes a huge difference if its 100% open for all districts. Cause you cant tell me that every single american/japanese/chinese/korean has another GW account for the european district, they must have prophecies 2 (missing skills) cause the FoW and UW area in factions and Nightfall are mostly deserted. This means that the total amount of people farming uw and fow will increase with woha 400% (just a guess)

I totally agree with Replicant. If FoW and UW were PvP worlds, then let the PvPers deal with favor for those areas. But this is about PvP unrealistically controlling PvE, which is just plain stupid.

Or at least have some alternate form of entry that requires PVE skill. Beating one of the games on hard mode maybe?

How about this, if people are worried about the ecto market falling through the floor.
UW/FoW always open
with Favor, 1k to enter
without Favor, 1k + 1 ecto to enter

/NOT SIGNED!!!!

guys, UW and FoW is SUPPOSED TO BE ELITE AREAS!!!!!!, plus, the whole point of it being linked to favor, is because it links PvE to PvP, meaning you need people in both parts of the game.

also, its not Europe's fault we always have favor during the day (gmt during the day) , get over it, we have to deal with the fact Asia gets all the promotional events, but we don't wine....

ok thats a lie, but still, permanent entry would be stupid, it would cause a in game economy crash, gold and items (ectos etc) that are meant to be special elite area items, and there for should be worth allot, would be worth jack all, FoW amour, which is meant to be elite amour, which people REALLY have to work for, (not counting eBay gold buyers) and with perma entry it would be just another 15K amour.

my final point it this, for the love of god, just be patient and wait for favor, its not that hard.

To be honest, 90% of the loot is crap, it's boring to explore and a complete failure as a mission. Why worry about it being open or not. LOL

The only reason people want it as it is, is so they can TRY and get something and sell it for 100k +50 ectos lol

GW = Greed Wars

To all who say Ecto prices would drop:

Many people who farm UW base their play time around when the country they play in has favor, or have an account in both Europe and America.

Casual players with a life hardly ever get in. What about people who work nights in the US? What about Japan, Korea, or Taiwan? Do they think it's fair?

/signed for open access with fee

It's a fun area, but only a fraction of the playerbase gets to enjoy it at any one time. Also, the people that fight to win access to it enjoy different fruits for their labor, and could mostly care less about FoW/UW.

Oh, and how could I forget! I have guildies on 4 different continents, so this is the first time we've ever been able to enter FoW together!

the econemy alrdy sucks for greens and most rare skinned golds arent rare after 2-3 weeks the campaign has been out.
ectos andshards are only thing that really have stayed around 6-9k (of course when i stated playing they were higher)

its been like 3-4 hours into event ectos alrdy went down 2k from ppl selling for 8k to now them selling at 6k

I guess you'd feel the same way about Cantha, the Echovald and Jade Sea in particular, being ruled for Alliance Battles, Jade Quarry and Aspenwood, then?

Anyway, /signed because everyone can then enjoy it, but at the same time /notsigned because the economy would suffer, if only a small percentage.
